|Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow himself to be sneered at [scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside]. [he inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap. For he who sows to his own flesh [lower nature, sensuality] will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint Gal 6:7-9
These verses clearly say God will not wink at those professing to be saved yet walking according to the desires of the flesh; this being a form of mockery!
Yet we know that a man is justified or reckoned righteous and in right standing with God not by works of the law, but [only] through faith and [absolute] reliance on and adherence to and trust in Jesus Christ [the Messiah, the anointed One]. [therefore] even we [ourselves] have believed on Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law [for we cannot be justified by any observance of the ritual of the law given by Moses], because by keeping legal rituals and by works no human being can ever be justified [declared righteous and put in right standing with God]. Gal 2:16
The above scripture is saying faith in the Lord is what we need to be saved not the law as the Pharisees taught. But this is saying that if we have the faith then we will show it by leaning completely upon Him.
But immorality [sexual vice] and all impurity [of lustful, rich, wasteful living] or greediness must not even be named among you, as is fitting and proper among saints [God's consecrated people]. Let there be no filthiness [obscenity, indecency] nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice your thank-fullness [to God]. For be sure of this; that no person practicing sexual vice or impurity in thought or in life, or one who is covetous [who has lustful desire for the property of others and is greedy for gain], -for he [in effect] is an idolater-has any inheritance in the Kingdom of God. Let no one delude and deceive you with empty excuses and groundless arguments [for these sins], for through these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of rebellion and disobedience. So do not associate or be sharers with them. For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light [lead the lives of those native-born to the light]. Eph 5:3-8
The Lord is warning us not to be deceived into thinking it's all right to sin; for His wrath will fall upon those doing the things listed above. Don't leave me yet; letís continue to the end.
You [are like] unfaithful wives having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God! Do you not know that being the world's friend is being God's enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God. James 4:4
We always hear how the Lord will never leave us. But according to what we have read so far we are the ones to leave the Lord. We have the choice to embrace sin declaring ourselves to be His enemy. It's becoming more difficult to argue for unconditional salvation with these scriptures, and it's important we not be deceived by man or man's traditions no matter how sincere we are.
For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit. Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever]. [That is] because the mind of the flesh [with its carnal thoughts and purposes] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God's law; indeed it cannot. So then those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God or be acceptable to Him. Rom 8:5-8,
I've heard it said that when a saved person goes into sin, the Lord would kill his body and take him home to heaven. I have to tell you, this is not the message I am getting from these scriptures. According to this when the body dies the person living in sin will go to hell. Again our fleshly nature is against God and with the flesh ruling we cannot find acceptance with God.
But if Christ lives in you [then although] your [natural] body is dead by reason of sin and guilt, the Spirit is alive because of [the] righteousness [that He imputes to you]. Rom 8:10
Death entered the world with the fall of Adam and Eve. This scripture is referring to death as a result of the fall of mankind. As we know when we are saved His righteousness is in us. The question facing us here is, does His Spirit live in us?
For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die, but if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death [making extinct, deadening] the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever. Rom 8:13
Praise God! We that live for the Lord have His promise of Heaven. Again this verse is saying those in sin will die in body as well as spirit. We need to be telling our flesh "no" to sin!
But [like a boxer] I buffet my body [handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships] and subdue it for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit [not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit]. 1 Cor 9:27
If Paul knew he had to line up with the Spirit of God, or be cast away as lost, why do we think we can play with the world and still be saved? We need to be very careful not to be a hypocrite.
Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
If it's all right for us to live in sin as long as we once prayed the salvation prayer, then why does this say "few" will find eternal life? What about the way being so straight? I think we need to pay close attention to this, donít you? Our soul is at stake here; shall we proceed?
What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate [sever] yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor, and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
1 Cor 6:16-18
There it is a condition to our salvation; we've seen this same condition in all the scriptures.
But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire [lust, passions]. Then the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death. James 1:14-15
This death is "spiritual" death; the preceding scriptures bear this out.
Whoever says, I know Him [I perceive, recognize, understand, and am acquainted with Him] but fails to keep and obey His commandments [teachings] is a liar, and the truth [of the Gospel] is not in him. But he who keeps [treasures] His Word [who bears in mind His precepts, who observes His message in its entirety], truly in him has the love of and for God been perfected [completed, reached maturity]. By this we may perceive, [know, recognize, and be sure] that we are in Him. 1 John 2:4-5
But, what happens when we stumble and fall? Are we immediately lost if we argue with our spouse, or think an unkind thought toward someone? Am I going to Hell every time I drive faster then the speed limit?
