                           CHAPTER  TWENTY  ONE

We are entering another flash back to the New Jerusalem and the Millennium in detail.

Verse 1-4
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2) I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3) And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4) He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."   .

Massive earthquakes will shift the plates that separate the continents of our planet. Earth must be cleansed by fire in order to purge her of all the corruption effecting nature as well as humankind. Not only will Earth will be destroyed but the heavens including the stars, moon and sun will be destroyed as well. In its place, we will see a new perfect Earth replacing the old one.  There are differing views on this passage.  Some speculate earth and heaven will literally be destroyed and God will take us to a new planet.  I am of the opinion earth and heaven will be completely renovated in order to sanitize it making it new in every way. This new Earth will have a clear covering like a dome over it, which will radiate light from the Holy City over the Earth. This dome will keep the moisture in the earth’s atmosphere as it did in the days of Adam and Eve, there will be no need for rain.

The church is called the Bride, body and family as well as the city; consisting of those saints having died or having been Raptured.
Verse 3 tells us God dwells with us not us dwelling with Him, therefore this is not Heaven but the New Jerusalem on the New Earth.  Among every wonderful promise, we have from the Lord we also will have our heartaches and tears removed. We will not recall the pain we have suffered. Have you ever wondered how a person can have perfect peace when loved ones enter eternity unsaved?  Job 24:20 says we will have no memory of them. As horrible as this is, it is gracious of our Lord to give us this peace.

2 Peter 3:10-13
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. 11) Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12) as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13) But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

Rev 20:11
Then I saw a great white throne and the One Who was seated upon it, from Whose presence and from the sight of Whose face earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them

Many versions use the words I've researched in the Greek Dictionary:

Passed away: Greek word (parerchomai) meaning = to come, or go; for the meaning to come forth or come.  To go by, or away from. In the sense of passing from one condition to another.
Elements: Greek word (stoicheion) meaning = something orderly in arrangement, element, principle, or rudiment.  It has to do with foundation principles regarding the questions that are involved.  It embodies sinful nature, disease, bad spirits, and corruption that must be destroyed. (Rom 8:16-25)
Melt: Greek word (luo) meaning = to loosen, shall melt, dissolve, shall dissolve [passive voice], or set free, untie, put off, inbind.

The New Heavens and New Earth will be the great climax to the eternal  plan of God.  Since the beginning, God has determined to dwell with His creation in a perfect place free from sin, sickness and pain.  He has longed to walk with man “in the cool of the day” [
Gen 3:8].  God plans eternal fellowship with His children.  With the end of the curse and it’s effect on man as well as earth, man will truly enjoy HEAVEN ON EARTH!  Glory to the Lamb of God!  Through Jesus Christ we can have this for all eternity.  He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.  Jesus is the source of LIFE!  If you are not ready to face this wonderul LORD then I urge you do so now.. don't wait, the time is now..   www.abbalovesus.com/Salvation.html

God our Father will be visible to all "natural" mankind not just the "glorified saints".   He will be

Verse 5-7
He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6)  He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7)  He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

Heb 12:25-29
Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven! 26) When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” 27) This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. 28)  Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. 29 For our God is a devouring fire.

Verse  8
“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

This scripture verifies we are in the Millennium for after the Millennium there will be no sinners having all of them in the Lake of fire.  Lets take a closer look at this passage.

Liars: Greek word is (pseudes) meanings = lying, false.  My note: Just for the record, there is no such thing as a white lie or harmless lie. We must always be honest no matter what it costs us.  But we don't have to tell everything we know either as long as we do not deceive.

Second Death: Some think this to mean a literal death of body and soul, this can not be the true. This death does not include the angels, but those people having died and gone to hell, which we know is not the Lake of Fire.  Death and hell are cast into the Lake of Fire.

Rev 20:15
And if anyone's [name] was not found recorded in the Book of Life, he was hurled into the lake of fire.

Greek for eternal is aionion which means forever and is applied to punishment as well as blessing.

Verses  9
Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

We are now the Wife of Jesus for we have already been to the Wedding Supper of the Lamb, during the last half of the Tribulation.

View 10-11
So he took me in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. 11) It shone with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious stone—like jasper as clear as crystal.

Once again we are seeing this is not Heaven,  new Jerusalem descends from Heaven, this is  the beginning of the Millennium. John calls this magnificient city the Bride meaning God's people dwell within it.  John uses symbolic language to describe this glorious city.  All of these precious stones is relating to the Shekinah glory.

Verses 12-14
The city wall was broad and high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates. 13) There were three gates on each side—east, north, south, and west. 14) The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

The Wall has three gates on each of the four sides.  Ezekiel gives a wonderful description of the earthly size of this city of Jerusalem, which is built at the beginning of the Millenium:

Eph 2:19-22
So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20) Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21) We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22) Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.

This is an awesome passage, we are a major part of the family of God.

Verse 15-17
The angel who talked to me held in his hand a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16) When he measured it, he found it was a square, as wide as it was long. In fact, its length and width and height were each 1,400 miles.  17) Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet thick (according to the human standard used by the angel).

This city wall measures:
1,4000  ft  Wide
1,4000  ft  Long
1,4000  ft  High            This new wall of Jerusalem is shaped like a cube and 216 ft thick.

Verse 18-21
The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass. 19) The wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve precious stones: the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20) the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. 21) The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass.

What a glorious array of brilliant colors.  These stones are what John describes.

Jasper = translucent with various colors like fire; it glows as gold so pure it is clear as glass.
Sapphire = a hard stone second only to the diamond, there are various shades of blue.
Chalcedony =  Blue or Gray with waxlike luster
Emerald =  Rich varity of Green
Sardonyx =  Onyx having parallel layers of red and white
Sardius =  A translucent, deep orange-red to brownish-red
Chrysolyte =   Yellow Gold Tone
Beryl =  Sea Green
Topaz =  Yellow to Brownish Yellow
Chrysoprasus =  Greenish Yellow
Jacinth =  Dark Iris Blue
Amethyst =  A clear Purple or Bluish Violet.

Verse 22-24
I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23) And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. 24) The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory.

We have read earlier in the study that Jesus is brighter then the sun. The glory and presence of the Lord will permeate the entire city not just a temple. Jesus lights only the city of Jerusalem.

Verse 25-27
Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there. 26) And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city. 27) Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

The gates will always be open for it will never be dark in this wondeful new Jerusalem. The natural man must be Saved in Jesus Christ in order to be allowed to enter New Jerusalem, to pay reverential honor to God, using the fruit of the earth as an expression of their love.  The Holy City will be open and everyone may come in and visit with God personally.
