| CHAPTER ELEVEN
Chapters 10 and 11 speak of the rapture of the church of Jesus Christ, which takes place some time after the seventh trumpet, this is the middle of the tribulation..
A REED [as a measuring rod] was then given to me, [shaped] like a staff, and I was told: Rise up and measure the sanctuary of God and the altar [of incense], and [number] those who worship there.
This is God measuring the spiritual condition of the Jewish people. During the first 3 1/2 years of the tribulation, the “Temple” is in place and the Jews are allowed to worship freely. Worshippers must first measure up to the commands of God.
And he shall enter into a strong and firm covenant with the many for one week [seven years]. And in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and offering to cease [for the remaining three and one-half years]; and upon the wing or pinnacle of abominations [shall come] one who makes desolate, until the full determined end is poured out on the desolator.
How briefly your holy people possessed your holy place, and now our enemies have destroyed it. 19) Sometimes it seems as though we never belonged to you, as though we had never been known as your people.
The anti-Christ will sign a false peace treaty with Israel for seven years. This will be the official begining of the Tribulation. After the first 3 1/2 yrs of the treaty, the anti-Christ will claim Jerusalem as His headquarters. He will then commandeer and desecrate their temple and then demand they worship him as God, revealing to the Jewish people that he is not their Messiah after all..
2 Thes 2:1-4
Now, dear brothers and sisters, let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we will be gathered to meet him. 2) Don’t be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don’t believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us. 3) Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction. 4) He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.
We are seeing and have been seeing for some time the “great falling away” spoken of in the scriptures. The majority of our church leaders are indoctrinating the church body in the love of money, through the doctrine of prosperity.
Nary has a day gone by but I receive in my email testimony, of some one being called a Prophet of God having a vision of Jesus calling us home before the month of September is out. Before we accept these visions, we must ask the question, “how does this line up with scripture?” I believe the integrity of these dear ones, but I cannot accept these visions as from the Lord. To be a true Prophet of God our visions and prophecies must always line up with the scriptures. (Mk 13:22)
1 Tim 6:10-11
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. 11) But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
I have come in My Father's name and with His power, and you do not receive Me [your hearts are not open to Me, you give Me no welcome]; but if another comes in his own name and his own power and with no other authority but himself, you will receive him and give him your approval.
Construction of the Jewish temple will begin either before or shortly after the signing of the seven-year peace treaty. Israel will accept the anti-Christ as her long awaited Messiah, where she rejected our Lord Jesus Christ. I find it interesting that the Jews are not the only people looking for their “messiah”. Many groups of false religions are also looking for their long awaited “Savior”. It would seem the majority of the world today is looking for their messiah.
But leave out of your measuring the court outside the sanctuary of God; omit that, for it is given over to the Gentiles [the nations], and they will trample holy city underfoot for 42 months [three and on-half years].
The Lord is not measuring those outside the temple for they are not His nor of His household. As we walk in the Lord, we will not be surprised when the Lord comes for us. We need to be vigilant in waiting and watching for His return. Avoid the deception of “false doctrines” which are running ramped in our churches today. Our studying to see if it really lines up with the Bible must follow every sermon and teaching we hear. We have been given a guide for us to follow during these last days in 1 Thes 5:6-22.
And I will grant the power of prophecy to My two witnesses for 1,260 (42 months; three and one-half years), dressed in sackcloth.
These two witnesses are here to speak forth God's Word for 3 1/2 years. The sackcloth they will wear is a sign of great mourning. These two witnesses not only will speak as the Lord moves through them but, at the same time they will protect Israel from the anti-Christ. There is much speculation as to whom these two men will be, here are three very strong possibilites:
1) Enoch: He never died.. And Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God; and he was not, for God took him [home with Him]. Gen 5:24
2) Elijah: Verse six of Rev 11 speaks of them shutting off the rain.. ELIJAH THE Tishbite, of the temporary residents of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, before Whom I stand, there shall not be dew or rain these years but according to My word. 1 King 17:1
Elijah appeared on the mountian with Jesus and Moses.. Matt 17:1-3 AND SIX days after this, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. And His appearance underwent a change in their presence; and His face shone clear and bright like the sun, and His clothing became as white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, who kept talking with Him.
Then again, there is this passage in Malachi..Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes. Mal 4:5
3) Moses: He turned the water into blood.. Then the Lord said to Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hard and stubborn; he refuses to let the people go. Go to Pharaoh in the morning; he will be going out to the water; wait for him by the river's brink; and the rod which was turned to a serpent you shall take in your hand. And say to him, The Lord, the God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness; and behold, heretofore you have not listened. Thus says the Lord, In this you shall know, recognize, and understand that I am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the rod in my hand the waters in the [Nile] River, and they shall be turned to blood. The fish in the river shall die, the river shall become foul smelling, and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink from it. And the Lord said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, rivers, pools, and ponds of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, in containers both of wood and of stone. Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded; [Aaron] lifted up the rod and smote the waters in the river in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and all the waters in the river were turned to blood. And the fish in the river died; and the river became foul smelling, and the Egyptians could not drink its water, and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their enchantments and secret arts; and Pharaoh's heart was made hard and obstinate, and he did not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said. And Pharaoh turned and went into his house; neither did he take even this to heart. And all the Egyptians dug round about the river for water to drink, for they could not drink the water of the [Nile]. Seven days passed after the Lord had smitten the river Exodus 7:14-25
These [witnesses] are the two olive trees and the two lampstands which stand before the Lord of the earth.
This verse is referring to the strong anointing of the Holy Ghost these two men will have.
Then the angel who had been talking with me returned and woke me, as though I had been asleep. 2) “What do you see now?” he asked. I answered, “I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl of oil on top of it. Around the bowl are seven lamps, each having seven spouts with wicks. 3) And I see two olive trees, one on each side of the bowl.” 4) Then I asked the angel, “What are these, my lord? What do they mean?” 5) “Don’t you know?” the angel asked. “No, my lord,” I replied. 6) Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
Glory to God! We can do nothing relying on our own power, but through the power of the Holy Ghost, we can do all things!
And if anyone attempts to injure them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their enemies; if anyone should attempt to harm them, thus he is doomed to be slain.
The anti-Chrsit will hate these men, wanting them dead, but though many will attempt to kill them, none will suceed until the Lord allows it. Fire will come from their mouths turning those trying to slay them into kindling Jer 5:15 and 2 Ki 1:10.
These [two witnesses] have power to shut up the sky, so that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying (their prediction of events relating to Christ's kingdom and its speedy triumph); and they also have power to turn the waters into blood and to smite and scourge the earth with all manner of plagues as often as they choose.
So this is what the Lord says: “I will show you that I am the Lord.” Look! I will strike the water of the Nile with this staff in my hand, and the river will turn to blood. 18) The fish in it will die, and the river will stink. The Egyptians will not be able to drink any water from the Nile.’” 19) Then the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and raise your hand over the waters of Egypt—all its rivers, canals, ponds, and all the reservoirs. Turn all the water to blood. Everywhere in Egypt the water will turn to blood, even the water stored in wooden bowls and stone pots.’”
As God did this for Moses He will do this again for the two witnesses.
But when they have finished their testimony and their evidence is all in, the beast (monster) that comes up out of the Abyss (bottomless pit) will wage war on them, and conquer them and kill them..
This is the first time the anti-Christ is mentioned as the "Beast". When the two witnesses have finished as the Lord directs, the anti-Christ will then be allowed to kill them.
And their dead bodies [will lie exposed] in the open street (a public square) of the great city which is in a spiritual sense called [by the mystical and allegorical names of] Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.
The Lord calling Jerusalem Sodom and Egypt is referring to their state of rebellion.
For three and a half days men from the races and tribes and languages and nations will gaze at their dead bodies and will not allow them to be put in a tomb.
The anti-Christ as well as all humanity will be so overjoyed in the death of these two men, that their image will be seen (probably on T.V.) for the full three days prior to their returning to Heaven.
And those who dwell on the earth will gloat and exult over them and rejoice exceedingly, taking their ease and sending presents [in congratulation] to one another, because these two prophets had been such a vexation and trouble and torment to all the dwellers on the earth.
Those celebrating the death of the two-witnesses are those suffering much torment in body as well as conviction in their soul.
But after three and a half days, by God's gift the breath of life again entered into them, and they rose up on their feet, and great dread and terror fell on those who watched them.
The pleasure of sin only lasts for a season then it comes to a screeching halt. Death and destruction await those that only moments ago were rejoicing in the death of God’s men.
And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come. 15) “The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the Holy Place.” (Reader, pay attention!)
This passage is speaking of the anti-Christ taking over the temple as he desecrates it, causing the Jew’s to see he is not of God at all. Dan 8:9-12 speaks of Antiochus Epiphanes who in 168 B.C. set up an image of the Greek god Zeus in the temple and sacrificed a pig on the altar. This man is clearly a facsimile of the anti-Christ and it is believed he too will sacrifice a pig on the altar.
Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here." And they went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies looked on. 13) At that very hour there was a severe earthquake and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.
I believe these scriptures are to be taken quite literally. Can you imagine the horror of seeing these two men lying dead in the street for three days, in the heat of Israel? While the stench and appearance of rotting flesh can be taken quite literal, but there is another side to this. As we think about these two bodies, we also see this as symbolic for the state of the unsaved.
The second woe (calamity) has passed; now the third woe is speedily to come.
This next woe is the worst one and it comes quickly, there is no waiting. When you see the word "quickly" in this study, it means there is a predetermined time for all of this to happen and there will be no waiting between occurances.
The seventh angel then blew [his] trumpet, and there were mighty voices in heaven, shouting, The dominion (kingdom, sovereignty, rule) of the world has now come into the possession and become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ (the Messiah), and He shall reign forever and ever (for the eternities of the eternities)!
The seventh trumpet is about to blow and the rapture is now at hand!
1 Thes 5:15-18
See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. 16) Always be joyful. 17) Never stop praying. 18) Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31) And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.
1 Cor 15:51-57
But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! 52) It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. 53) For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. 54) Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory. 55) O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56) For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. 57) But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
What a glorious set of promises have been given to us by our Father. We are a blessed people.
But that when the days come when the trumpet call of the seventh angel is about to be sounded, then God's mystery (His secret design, His hidden purpose), as He had announced the glad tidings to His servants the prophets, should be fulfilled (accomplished, completed).
The era of the "gospel" is now finished. The remnant of Jesus Christ has been taken home and along with this is the end of the days of "grace", and the Gospel is now over.
Then the twenty-four elders [of the heavenly Sanhedrin], who sit on their thrones before God, prostrated themselves before Him and worshiped,
The Sanhedrin is the name given in the mishna to the council of seventy-one Jewish sages who constituted the supreme court and legislative body in Judea during the Roman period. It continued to function for more than four hundred years after the destruction of the Temple and there have been several orthodox attempts to re-establish it since that time. The current attempt to re-establish the Sanhedrin is generally referred to as the "nascent Sanhedrin", or the "developing Sanhedrin".
As you can see these men were sitting on their thrones until the rapture, then they fall upon their faces before the Lord giving Him praise and thanks.
We are home!!! Glory to God!
saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who art and who wast; because thou hast taken thy great power, and didst reign.
God is OMNIPOTENT, He is almighty with unlimited power and authority.
And the heathen (the nations) raged, but Your wrath (retribution, indignation) came, the time when the dead will be judged and Your servants the prophets and saints rewarded--and those who revere (fear) Your name, both low and high and small and great--and [the time] for destroying the corrupters of the earth.
This is the final judgment here on earth, while we are being rewarded in Heaven.
For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory (majesty, splendor) of His Father with His angels, and then He will render account and reward every man in accordance with what he has done..
Behold, I am coming soon, and I shall bring My wages and rewards with Me, to repay and render to each one just what his own actions and his own work merit
Then the sanctuary of God in heaven was thrown open, and the ark of His covenant was seen standing inside in His sanctuary; and there were flashes of lightning, loud rumblings (blasts, mutterings), peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a terrific hailstorm.
The ark was a chest which contained the Ten Commandments, a pot of manna and Aaron's rod. It was covered by a lid called the "Mercy Seat". Fixed at both ends were two carved, winged cherubim. It was placed in the most holy place of the Tabernacle, and it represented the Throne of God. Once a year on the Day of Atonement, the High Priest would sprinkle blood on the Mercy Seat, as an atonement for the sins of the people for the past year.
Manna represents our Lord Jesus Christ. Aaron's rod represents the Lord's ruling, chastising, and support. As I mentioned earlier there is a theory that the ARK was made as a symbol of the orginal one, which remained in Heaven.
