| THE REVELATION
OF JESUS CHRIST
ESCHATOLOGY: A study of the end times
PATMOS: A small island 4x8 miles; 50 miles s/w of Ephesus
I am using various Bibles, using at any given time the one that most accurately lines up with the Greek or Hebrew meaning of the original manuscripts. While I love the King James there are several places of discrepancy, we must remember the KJV is only a few hundred years old.
[THIS IS] the revelation of Jesus Christ [His unveiling of the divine mysteries]. God gave it to Him to disclose and make known to His bond servants certain things which must shortly and speedily come to pass in their entirety. And He sent and communicated it through His angel (messenger) to His bond servant John,
As you see this book is refered to as "a mystery". This is key in understanding it. We must keep in mind that John wrote this 2,000 yrs ago and not only had he never seen most of the things he is trying to describe, but he also wrote in code to get it past the guards.
We can easily understand it if we keep this in mind and watch for the key words. It's also important to search these passages out in the Greek and Hebrew, keeping in mind the King James (which I love) is a fairly new translation.
This book is the unveiling of the secret of the last days.
The word "shortly" in the Greek means in a fixed space or period where anything takes place. Once the Book of Revelation begins to happen it'll all happen in a short period of time.
Messenger as used here and regarding each of the seven churches is messenger or pastor, it is not an angel.
John to the seven assemblies (churches) that are in Asia: May grace (God's unmerited favor) be granted to you and spiritual peace (the peace of Christ's kingdom) from Him Who is and Who was and Who is to come, and from the seven Spirits [the sevenfold Holy Spirit] before His throne.
Thoughout the scriptures the number seven is used to represent SACRED, and ABUNDANT ONE, The church are individuals as well as a church body. The seven spirits of the Holy Spirit will be found in Isaiah 11:2-3 ?
Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth shall gaze upon Him and beat their breasts and mourn and lament over Him. Even so [must it be]. Amen (so be it).
Jesus is coming for us in the "clouds". This is in reference to the Rapture. We will not be taken by surprise:
Truly I tell you, this generation (those living at that definite period of time) will not perish and pass away until all has taken place. The sky and the earth the universe, the world) will pass away, but My words will not pass away. But take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with the giddiness and headache and nausea of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly worries and cares pertaining to [the business of] this life, and [lest] that day come upon you suddenly like a trap or a noose; For it will come upon all who live upon the face of the entire earth.
Those lost ones will be surprised by the Lord Jesus as He comes for His church. His true believers. Jesus is brighter then the sun and in that day the sun will be dimned.. we will see all of this later. But remember "cloud" is a key word for seeing when the Rapture will take place.
Then I turned to see [whose was] the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands,
The SEVEN CANDLESTICKS are the Seven Church’s which represents each one of us. As we study these church’s we must question ourselves, “Does this describe me and which church am I?”
In His right hand He held seven stars, and from His mouth there came forth a sharp two-edged sword, and His face was like the sun shining in full power at midday.
Remembering number Seven means sacred, I would say this is Jesus holding the Five-Fold Ministries [Eph 4:11-12] in His Hand. Jesus is holding these ministries in His hand in order to guide, correct and protect them.
As to the hidden meaning (the mystery) of the seven stars which you saw on My right hand and the seven lampstands of gold: the seven stars are the seven angels (messengers) of the seven assemblies (churches) and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.
The term "Angels" means ministers or pastors, not always literal angels. As we study the entire Bible we can see it really does open up to us.
The gospel is often called a "mystery" this is because unless a person is really "Born Again" his eyes are not open to understanding it. Jesus often spoke in parables because of His not wanting to cast His pearls before swine.
And at the same time pray for us also, that God may open a door to us for the Word (the Gospel), to proclaim the mystery concerning Christ (the Messiah) on account of which I am in prison; That I may proclaim it fully and make it clear [speak boldly and unfold that mystery], as is my duty.
Then the disciples came to Him and said, Why do You speak to them in parables?
And He replied to them, To you it has been given to know the secrets and mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has [spiritual knowledge], to him will more be given and he will be furnished richly so that he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is the reason that I speak to them in parables: because having the power of seeing, they do not see; and having the power of hearing, they do not hear, nor do they grasp and understand.
Do not give that which is holy (the sacred thing) to the dogs, and do not throw your pearls before hogs, lest they trample upon them with their feet and turn and tear you in pieces.
