I can’t think of any stronger blessing then being used of the Lord.  I haven’t the words to describe the wonder of being completely one with the Lord as when the anointing raises within you and the power of His presence floods your soul.  There is no fear, physical pain nor discomfort of any kind, not even an awareness of the physical body.  As you are completely centered on Him, you will cease to exist.

I am writing this article, in hopes it will answer the many questions I receive on how to prepare to minister.

Please pray before you go any further in this, never taking what I or anyone says at face value.  Everything must line up with the Word of God.   I am using the Amplified Bible which contains the Hebrew and Greek meaning of key words.

John 20:21-22  Then Jesus said to them again, Peace to you! [Just] as the Father has sent Me forth, so I am sending you. And having said this, He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit!

When there is a call upon our life to minister we will know it, there will be no doubt.  The Holy Spirit will write it upon our heart.  The call to minister must be DIVINE.  As we learn to listen to the voice of God, we will know when and how He wants to use us.

John 16:13-14  But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]. He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

Because we may feel the call upon our life to go forth and minister to others, that doesn't mean the time to do this is at hand.  I have seen many a young well meaning Christian march forth, only to encounter obstacles they are not prepared to handle, causing them to lose faith and fall.  There is a time of preparation which is vital to an anointed servant of God.

1 Cor 16:8-9  I will remain in Ephesus [however] until Pentecost, For a wide door of opportunity for effectual [service] has opened to me [there, a great and promising one], and [there are] many adversaries.

I have added the above scripture to point out that Paul knew to wait until the Holy Spirit directed him to go forth, even though he knew a door was opening for him, the time wasn't right.

John 10:14 I am the Good Shepherd; and I know and recognize My own, and My own know and recognize Me--

We must be fired up with moral passion to do the will of God as well as being fired up with true FAITH in God.

True faith and passion comes from knowing the Word and character of God.  We must eat the Word and eat it again and again, not leaving it until we know what the passage is speaking of, along with the  determination to apply it to our life..

Romans 10:17  So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).

If we are lazy about studying the Word of God, we won’t be equipped to share HIM with anyone.

It’s vital we live for the Lord in faith, doing all we can to draw closer to Him.  Having spiritual gifts won’t guarantee us an anointed blessed ministry, if we are not leaning on the Lord in faith, just look at the passage below:

Matt 7: 20-24  Therefore, you will fully know them by their fruits(Gal5:22-26). Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.  Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands]. So everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts upon them [obeying them] will be like a sensible (prudent, practical, wise) man who built his house upon the rock.

When the scripture above says He never "knew us" the Lord is speaking as a man "knows" his wiffe on an intimate level.  We are to be "one with Him".

We need to remember in Rev 3 the church of Laodicea was a very wealthy church and did all the right things, but they were spiritually dead, much like our churches today.

Rev 3:20-22 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heeds My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him, and he [will eat] with Me. He who overcomes (is victorious), I will grant him to sit beside Me on My throne, as I Myself overcame (was victorious) and sat down beside My Father on His throne. He who is able to hear, let him listen to and heed what the [Holy] Spirit says to the assemblies (churches).

Did you realize the above passage was written for the church?  Oh yes, remember the word of God is written for the saints not the unsaved.  As we look around today we see this church of Laodicea all too often and we do not want to be guilty of being dead.

The word tells us that we can not please God if we have no faith.

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

1 Cor 16:13  Be alert and on your guard; stand firm in your faith (your conviction respecting man's relationship to God and divine things, keeping the trust and holy fervor born of faith and a part of it). Act like men and be courageous; grow in strength!

There are many warnings telling us to be alert, to hang onto the truth of His Word, not to be deceived, why is this?  There are many false teachers and prophets in the churches today.  If you’ll look in Rev 2:18-28, you’ll see the warning to the church being over run with the spiritual Jezebel.

The Jezebel is a false teacher/ prophet sent to destroy the body of Christ.  The primary teaching today is one feeding the flesh in place of feeding the spirit.  Be aware!

Rev 2:24-25  But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching (false teaching), who have not explored and known the depths of Satan, as they say--I tell you that I do not lay upon you any other [fresh] burden: Only hold fast to what you have until I come.

The new burden the Lord speaks of here is a new depth... a new teaching.  Remember the simplicity of the Word of God and beware of so called “new deeper” teachings, many being false.

Hosea 4:6-7  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you [the priestly nation] have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you that you shall be no priest to Me; seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children. The more they increased and multiplied [in prosperity and power], the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.

A false teacher, with the seductive gospel of wealth and with no trials is hard to resist, unless we are in the true Word of God.  Line everything up with the Word, using a good Bible dictionary (Vines is good) which speaks the Hebrew meanings for the words in the Old Testament and the Greek meaning for the New Testament.

When we are called of God, to one of the five-fold ministries
(Eph 4:11) we will be tried and tested. Again faith is the key.  As we stay focused on the Lord during these trials we will be conformed to the task we are called to fill [James 1].

We need to fast and pray fervently for others as well as ourselves. [Isaiah 58] fasting will open our eyes to the spiritual realm as well as focusing us on the Lord.  But be aware, during fasting the enemy of our soul can also be present and sending us false messages.  In all things seek a witness, the Lord will always send one.

A great book on fasting is "The Lord's Chosen Fast."

We need to learn how to walk holy as the Lord requires.

1 Peter 1:15-16 But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living.  For it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy

When we fall short and we will, then we must see our sins as a betrayal against ourselves. Job was called a perfect man, this wasn't because he was without sin, but when he did sin, he was quick to repent with a broken heart.

We need to pray (James 5:16) for wisdom, boldness, love and yes patience on a daily basis.  We need to be asking the Lord to show us where we fall short and then be prepared to see the answer and act upon it.

The trials will be many as we ask for patience but alas this is how we learn, and we need patience as much as faith and love.

Rom 5:3-5  Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance. And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation. Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

Prepare ye the way of the LORD,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God."
