| GOD SPOKE
AFTER THE death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord, Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites to fight against them? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up; behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
The Israelites were very concerned about this battle they were facing. Who would lead them into battle? When one leader passed on, the Lord set up a new one to take his place.
Like these Isrealites when Jesus left to go to the Father, He gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us through this time of Spiritual war. But we need to listen to His gentle voice, obeying Him in all things.
The Lord had instructed them to kill every member of these tribes, leaving no overwhelming influence turning them to idolatry, even a small portal would open the door to destruction.
We too are in a mighty army, and our leader tells us to put on the full armor (Eph 6) of God so we will be victorious.
But in the cities of these people which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes. But you shall utterly exterminate them, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, as the Lord your God has commanded you, So that they may not teach you all the abominable practices they have carried on for their gods, and so cause you to sin against the Lord your God.
Does this sound familiar to you? Aren't we told to walk away from worldly enticements, to be holy as the Lord is holy (1 Peter 1:15)? Arenít we to put fleshly desires to death much as the Israelites were told to kill the enemy?
One person from the enemy's army loosed on our soldiers can cause massive deaths in time of war, there is no difference in the physical war and the spiritual war... death (spiritual) is the price to pay for carelessness and rebellion in not following orders.
When Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor but did not utterly drive them out.
Do we hang onto one or two little things that donít really amount to very much, even though we know the Lord doesnít like it? It may be a bit of nudity on TV, or a choice morsel of gossip. It may be turning our back on someone we donít understand and donít really care to either. How about not speaking out, as we should? It may be a wrong attitude or wrong thoughts about a person.
Many times a person will say, "I can quit if I want too" or "it's just a tiny thing and no one knows anyway, I'll keep it in check so it doesn't get out of hand".
But tempatations grow and gain on us as we keep ignoring the Lord's word to turn away from sin. The Israelites we told to stay away from all yeast during the Passover (Ex 12). Yeast represents sin and destruction, it's forever expanding, demanding more room.
That you may show yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked and wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse], among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world,
If all our thoughts and private moments were opened for all to see, would we be ashamed? Of course we will stumble and sin from time to time, but to say we sin each day is not as it should be; nor are we to deliberately sin.
2 Cor 6:17-18
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
We are commanded to walk away from the sins of this world, it's not an option.
And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; but you shall break down their altars. But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this? So now I say, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you. When the Angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the Israelites, the people lifted up their voice and wept.
We are not to give place to the enemy (Eph 4:27)! If we want to walk as the child of God with the full protection of our Lord hovering over us, then we need to walk holy in the Lord.
They named that place Bochim [weepers], and they sacrificed there to the Lord. And when Joshua had let the people go, the Israelites went every man to his inheritance to possess the land. And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord which He did for Israel.
The Israelites repented of their disobedience and served the Lord, and the Lord blessed them. He loves us so much, if we're serious in wanting to walk with Him, then the Lord is there to embrace us, helping us each step of the way. We CAN break free from every thing that hinders us (Phil 4:13).
And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers, and there arose another generation after them who did not know (recognize, understand) the Lord, or even the work which He had done for Israel. And the people of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. And they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers, Who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods of the peoples round about them and bowed down to them, and provoked the Lord to anger.
We as parents and grandparents have a major influence on our young. We are told to raise our children in the way they will go (Prov 22:6). If we have sin in our life, these little ones will know it and it will come out.
As we allow the enemy to take root in our lives, we are allowing a curse to form and come against our seed. This is where "Generational Curses" begin. Demonic spirits stay in a family grouping, causing problems where ever they can. Do we want to be responsible for our children and grandchildren to deny Christ in favor of drink or sexual sins for example? What may appear minor to us may be major for the next generation as sin multiplies.
Not only did the younger generation turn toward sin, they married these Canaanites becoming one with them, and were over come to the degree of serving Baal that practiced baby sacrifices. ďLittleĒ sins donít stay little; Satan goes around as a lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8) and devour he does.
You [are like] unfaithful wives [having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world's friend is being God's enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God. Or do you suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no purpose that says, The Spirit Whom He has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and He yearns for the Spirit [to be welcome] with a jealous love
We are loved and precious to our LORD, as we serve Him in all truth we have nothing to fear nor dread. Praise God for His love and grace, we are a blessed people in Him.
Please give yourself a real blessing and study this book of Judges. As you study, ask the Lord if you are guilty of serving Him only when youíre in trouble. If the answer is yes then I suggest you get on your knees and really repent, turning your life around to serve him with all your heart and soul at all times.
Judgment is here, the Lord is telling those that are listening that this is no time to be playing games. We are either for Him or against Him, either His friend or His enemy.
