            Gifts of the Holy Spirit

As we open the word of God and study about the gifts of the Spirit, we'll see there are two different set of gifts.  One set of gifts is for the body of Christ [1 Cor 12:7-11], the other list of gifts is to enable a person to minister on a permanent bases [Rom 12:6-8 & Eph 4:11].

We'll take the list of gifts on their own first; then tie them in with the office gifts.

In
1 Corinthians 12, we see the gifts given to the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit. These gifts are given to the church for their edification.

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1 Cor 12:7

Edification
[Gk.
oikodome]: The act of  building
[Gk.
oikodomeo]: To build a house, act of spiritual growth and development of character.

To edify is not to make folks feel cozy, but it involves correction and teaching as well as encouraging.

Exhortation [Gk.
parakaleo]: To call a person, entreat, to admonish, to urge one to pursue some course of conduct [always looking
to the future].
Phil 4:2; 1 Thess 4:10; Heb 13:19

[Gk. paraineo]:  To tell of, speak of, to recommend, to advise, exhort, warn, admonished.  Acts 27:9,22

[Gk. protrepo]:  To turn forward,to impel morality, to urge forward,
encourage.
Acts 18:27

[Gk. paraklesis]: To call to one's side, to one's aid, an appeal,
an entreaty, encourgement; exhortation, consolation.
2 Cor 8:4, Rom 12:8, Rom 15:4

The spiritual gifts are a supernatural gift, given to the church for edification and exhortation.  Each time the gifts are in "operation" they must line up with the Word of God.  There are no new revelations, it must always be supported by scripture.

The gifts are all different, but they are all given by the Holy Spirit.  You can take three people with the same gift and they may each move in it differently.  But like I said it must always line up with the scriptures, and the Holy Spirit will always give a witness to what He shows us; I will speak more on this later.

It's important to know too, that a person may have a combination of gifts.

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame  Spirit, "dividing to every man severally" as he will.  1 Cor 12:11

In order for a person to believe they have a particular gift, they must operate in it on a regular basis.  At any given time a person may have the Spirit of God move upon them, but if it is a rare manifestation, then it cannot be considered a gift given to that person.

We are told to pray asking for the best gifts.
.

But covet earnestly the best gifts; and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.  1 Cor 12:31

Because a person has a particular gift, this does not mean they are more spiritual then one with a less favored gift.  We must always remember that no matter how wonderful the gifts are, the fruit of the Spirit is the one that shows how Spiritual and honorable a person is:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:22-23

We must also remember that Satan will counterfeit the gifts.  There are those in the churches passing as servants of God in order to cause confusion and lead others astray.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I  profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.  Matt 7:22-23

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits.  Do men gather grapes of thorns or figs of thistles?   Matt 7:15-16

Beloved, Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  1 John 4:1

Remember, every word coming forth must line up with the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit will always give a witness to us supporting what He has given forth.

Ok , lets look at the gifts:

1  Word of Wisdom: This is a Word spoken through a person by the power of God, on solving or handling a situation.  But this is not walking in wisdom, which is the result of study and walking close to the LORD daily.

2  Word of Knowledge: This is a word given to a person by the Holy Spirit, revealing a problem or situation, this gift works close with the gift of discerning of spirits and the gift of prophecy.

3  Faith: This is a faith beyond the normal faith for prayers answered or salvation. This kind of faith goes with the miracle gifts... deliverance, healings, etc

4  Healings: Again this goes beyond the normal prayer all in the body of Christ must believe in.  With the anointing of the Holy Spirit a person will be healed.  The Spirit moves in each of us a bit different, I will see the place on a person, for example:  I saw the spine of a person and a black spot to the left of the spine near the kidneys... I called it out and a lady came forth, she was being tested for cancer in that place.  She was healed about a month later.

A friend of mine feels the pain of those being blessed in healing, and then  she will call them  out.  We cannot bring these gifts on,, it is the Holy Ghost not us, that does these miracles.

There are various kinds of healings, spiritual as well as mental and physical.  We may have the gift of healings but in different areas.

5  Miracles: This will work in hand with the gift of faith.  You can have this gift with the gift of faith, but the gift of faith may not necessarily have the gift of miracles.

A person with a deliverance ministry must have this gift along with the gift of word of knowledge, and discerning of spirits.  When this gift is manifesting the Holy Spirit may tell us to order the rain to stop and it will.
